Field Trips

As part of the 4th ESP LAC 2023, we offered a range of field trips that allowed participants to fully experience the natural and cultural heritage of La Serena, the Coquimbo Region, and Chile.

These field trips were designed to provide participants with a unique opportunity to explore different ecosystem types and their services, while also allowing them to enjoy and learn from your surroundings.

Additionally, we offered a free excursion to the historical center of La Serena on Monday (6 November) at 14:00. This tour was given in Spanish and English, and started from La Serena Municipality building.

 Astronomical Experience

Experience an exceptional astronomical adventure in the Elqui Valley's natural observatory.

The Coquimbo region plays a leading role in the field of astronomy, thanks to its exceptional quality of clear skies, minimal cloud cover, and low light pollution. Get ready for a truly unique experience as you immerse yourself in the wonders of the night sky and the radiant beauty of the stars.

The journey begins with an informative talk introducing the fascinating world of astronomy. You'll then have the opportunity to observe various constellations with the naked eye, facilitated by the guidance of a laser pointer. Subsequently, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in direct observation of celestial bodies through the use of a telescope.

Time:  Tuesday, approximately 6:00 pm to 12:00 am (from La Serena).

 Fray Jorge National Park Excursion

Embark on an extraordinary wildlife and flora observation experience in the Fray Jorge Biosphere Reserve.

This UNESCO-designated World Biosphere Reserve spans an impressive 8,863 hectares. It is a natural gem, boasting an extraordinary phenomenon: a Valdivian-type Forest thriving within a coastal desert environment. Located amidst the majestic hills of the Andes Mountain Range, the park offers a 1,000-meter trail with a gentle slope, suitable for all individuals. Take advantage of the scenic viewpoint to marvel at the coastal landscape and embrace the serenity of the sea.

The trip includes transfers to and from the hotel, a delightful lunch featuring local products or a box lunch option, snacks, an expert nature guide to enhance your understanding of the diverse ecosystem, and entry to the Fray Jorge National Park.

Time: Approximately from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (including transfers from La Serena).
