Besides a very high discounted registration fee for ESP members, students, and low-income country delegates, ESP does not provide any financial support for the conference participants. For those who require financial aid, we suggest exploring external grant opportunities. Below are some helpful links to potential sources of conference grants for researchers and academics.

Early Career Scientist Grants - Hello Bio

US$500 to early career life scientist

Hello Bio supports life science post-graduate or post-doctoral researchers who have received their highest degree (BSc, MSc or PhD) within the past 10 years. The grant can be used for anything useful for their scientific career, including conference registration fees and travel expenses to a conference. More information can be found here.

Funding of Participation in Scientific Conferences Abroad - DAAD

Fund for active participation in an international scientific event abroad

The congress and lecture journey program of the DAAD supports the active participation of scientists in congresses and lectures abroad. The grant includes a financial contribution to the conference fee, travel allowance, and a subsistence allowance for the period of participation in the event. The grant is offered to scientists and PhD students that are integrated into the German science system as well as German scholars sponsored by German organizations abroad. Applications have to be submitted no later than four months before the 1st Day of the event. More information can be found here.

Training and Travel Grants - British Ecological Society

Grants of up to £1,000 are available.

The British Ecological Society help PhD students and postgraduate research assistants to meet the costs of specialist field training courses and to network and publicise their research by presenting their work at workshops and conferences. Applications will open on July 5th. There are different types of grants depending on the specific situation, with grants covering the cost of registration fees for virtual conferences, a maximum of £300 for events being held in the applicant’s country of residence, and a maximum of £500 for events being held outside the applicants’ country of residence. Customer Travel Award - BioLegend

Three US$500 prizes to any 2023 life science conference

BioLengend supports scientific discovery with three grants of US$500 to be used for conference-related expenses at any 2023 life science conference held between June to December. Applicants must be researchers from an academic or non-profit institution (e.g., technician, PhD/graduate student, post-doc, or principal investigator) who are BioLegend customers or have used BioLegend products in their research. The contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada regions only. More information can be found here.

PhD students, lab managers, and post-docs from academic research institutions in the US or Europe are highly encouraged to apply for this financial support. This grant is intended to help cover the costs of registration, accommodation and travel to a conference. More information can be found here.
