1. Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative - A new Decade for Action
The Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative is a global science-policy initiative that works towards integrating the true value of land and its ecosystem services in decision-making. Established in 2011 between the UNCCD, EU and BMZ, and hosted by GIZ, the initiative now enters its second decade of activities in which ELD will continue its transition from raising awarenss towards informing concrete decisions, boosting action and investments for sustainable land management and ecosystem restoration.
2. FIDELIO (Forecasting Social Impacts of Biodiversity Conservation Policies in Europe): a 5-year research project funded by the European Research Council (2019-2024)
Protected Areas are one of the key conservation tools and in Europe we have over 100,000 designated areas. Despite this large number, many of these Protected Areas are not fully effective or exist only on paper. The FIDELIO project aims to explore why some Protected Areas are more effective than others setting at its core the unravelling of complexities in socio-ecological systems of Protected Areas and the important role of social impacts of these conservation policies.
3. Ecosystems and People - an interdisciplinary and inclusive journal
Ecosystems and People is an interdisciplinary journal that addresses how biodiversity and ecosystems underpin human quality of life, and how societal activities and preferences drive changes in ecosystems.
At the stand, you will have the opportunity to meet the co-Editor in Chief and several Editorial Board members and familiarize yourself with the journal.
4. ESVD - Ecosystem Services Valuation Database
ESVD is the largest publicly available database and tool with standardized monetary values for all ecosystem services and all biomes on all continents. We gather information on monetary values of ecosystem services to reflect the `true`value of ecosystems to our wellbeing more visible. Ultimately, these values should be internalized in everyday (economic) decision making. With our Ecosystem Services Valuation Database (ESVD), we make all the benefits nature provides to us visible and thereby aim to show the importance of nature to societies and individuals.
